India has officially become the second country globally to introduce Electronic Personnel Licenses (EPL) for pilots, a move set to revolutionize the aviation sector. The initiative was launched by the Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu, following approval from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The Electronic Personnel License replaces traditional physical licenses and can be accessed through the eGCA Mobile Application. This shift aims to enhance the security, transparency, and efficiency of the pilot licensing process, simplifying verification and reducing the risk of fraud.
In addition to improving global employability for pilots, the EPL initiative aligns with India’s broader goal of modernizing aviation practices. Other digital innovations, such as the eGCA platform for licensing, the Digital Sky Platform for drones, and the Electronic Flight Folder for airline operations, are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to drive digitization in the sector.
