Modi Retirement: A recent claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced his retirement from politics has been widely circulated on social media, triggering speculations about his tenure. This claim, initially made by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, suggested that PM Modi discussed his retirement during a visit to the RSS headquarters in Nagpur. Raut also implied that a closed-door meeting was held to discuss the succession of PM Modi, hinting that the next Prime Minister would come from Maharashtra. However, a fact-check investigation by Vishvas News has found that these claims are entirely false.

The False Claim

A Facebook page named ‘NewsOne Live TV’ shared a post on April 2, 2025, featuring a graphic with the headline: “Breaking News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announces retirement from Politics. September 16th will be my last day at work.” This post quickly went viral, creating widespread confusion. The alleged announcement suggested that PM Modi would step down, which caused a stir online.

The Investigation

Vishvas News promptly investigated the claim and found it to be completely false. No such announcement has been made by PM Modi. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has firmly denied Raut’s statement, clarifying that PM Modi has no plans to retire. Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, also rejected Raut’s assertion, stating that PM Modi will continue to serve as the Prime Minister beyond 2024, possibly until 2029.

Further investigation into reports from March 31, 2025, found that Raut’s remarks about Modi’s retirement were based on speculation surrounding Modi’s age, as the Prime Minister will turn 75 in September 2025. However, there is no official retirement policy in the BJP or the RSS stating that leaders must retire at 75. In fact, BJP leader Rajnath Singh confirmed that such a rule does not exist.

Refutation by BJP Leaders

Raut’s claims were further refuted by various BJP leaders, including Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the Maharashtra BJP President. Bawankule described Raut’s statement as a political stunt, emphasizing that retirement from politics is not determined by arbitrary age limits. He pointed out that previous Prime Ministers, including Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Morarji Desai, and Dr. Manmohan Singh, served well past the age of 75.

BJP National Spokesperson Vijay Sonkar Shastri also clarified that PM Modi has not made any announcement regarding his retirement. He reiterated that PM Modi’s tenure will be decided by the people of India through elections and that the Prime Minister remains committed to achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047.

The Reality

PM Modi’s age and his long tenure in politics have often been subjects of discussion. However, as clarified by the BJP, any future decision regarding his leadership will be based on democratic processes, not individual opinions or assumptions. The claim about PM Modi’s retirement has no factual basis, and the circulating message is simply a falsehood aimed at spreading confusion.

The viral social media post claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced his retirement is entirely false. Both the BJP and other political leaders have denied these claims, confirming that PM Modi has no plans to step down. As always, the people of India will decide the future course of leadership through democratic elections, and no unsubstantiated rumors should be given credence.
