Saayoni Ghosh is a multifaceted personality hailing from Bengal, known for her work as an actress in Bengali cinema and television, her singing talent, and her active involvement in politics. Currently, she serves as a Member of Parliament, representing the Jadavpur constituency. Her journey in the entertainment world began with the telefilm Ichhe Dana, marking her acting debut. She soon appeared in a brief role in the feature film Notobor Notout, and gradually made her mark by sharing screen space with veterans in Shotru, directed by Raj Chakraborty. She portrayed a vibrant journalist in the television serial Proloy Asche, also helmed by Chakraborty.
Saayoni Ghosh’s cinematic repertoire includes several lead roles in popular Bengali films such as Kanamachi, Antaraal, Ekla Cholo, Amar Sahor, Bitnoon, Mayer Biye, and the critically acclaimed Rajkahini. Her political journey gained momentum in early 2021, when she officially joined the Trinamool Congress on February 24 of that year.
In March 2021, Saayoni was declared as the Trinamool Congress candidate for the Asansol South constituency in the West Bengal Assembly elections. Despite a strong campaign, she lost the election to BJP’s Agnimitra Paul. However, her political career continued to advance, and by June 2021, she had been appointed President of the Trinamool Youth Congress, taking over the position after Abhishek Banerjee stepped down.
On June 30, 2023, Saayoni was interrogated for nearly 11 hours by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with an investigation into the 2022 West Bengal School Service Commission recruitment scandal.
Her political efforts paid off in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where she secured a significant victory from the Jadavpur constituency as a Trinamool candidate, winning by a margin of over 250,000 votes.
